The story today in the Age implying that $3 billion of federal funding will be diverted to level crossing removal is wrong.
The Australian Government is committed to the East West Link being built.
I expressed emphatically to the Victorian Treasurer that the $3 billion, including the $1.5 billion already provided, is only for the purposes of building the East West Link.
At the meeting, the Victorian Treasurer and I talked about other projects which could receive further funding under the Government's asset recycling initiative. This discussion included how projects such as metro rail and level crossings could be funded following the sale of the Port of Melbourne.
