The Government has today released the report by the Inspector-General of Taxation, The Management of Tax Disputes.
The Inspector-General’s report was prepared at the request of the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Tax and Revenue. The Committee is conducting an Inquiry into Tax Disputes, which was referred to it on 2 June 2014 by the Acting Assistant Treasurer, Senator the Hon Mathias Cormann.
As part of the Inquiry the Committee has held nine public hearings: taking evidence from individual taxpayers, small businesses, professional firms, taxation dispute specialists, stakeholder groups, the Treasury and the Australian Taxation Office. The Inspector-General’s report will now be considered by the Committee as part of the Inquiry.
Recommendations by the Committee, as well as those of the Inspector-General, will be considered by the Government on conclusion of the Inquiry.
