The Morrison Government has reappointed Dr. Darryn Abraham and Professor Kevin Davis AM as part‑time members of the Australian Competition Tribunal (‘the Tribunal’) for one year.
Dr. Abraham was first appointed to the Tribunal in 2011 and then reappointed in 2016 for five years. He was Director of the economics consulting firm Acacia CRE Pty Ltd between 2005 and 2020 and is Emeritus Professor of Finance at The University of Melbourne, having been Professor of Finance there from 1987 to 2020. Dr. Abraham was also the Research Director of the Australian Centre for Financial Studies between 2006 and 2017, and was awarded an Order of Australia in 2019 for significant services to higher education.
Professor Kevin Davis has been a member of the Tribunal since 2011, having been reappointed in 2016 for five years. He has had an extensive academic career in finance and economics, having being a Professor of Finance at the University of Melbourne between 1987 and 2020, where he is now Emeritus Professor. Professor Davis’s reappointment will ensure the Tribunal has the required expertise in commerce and economics.
The Tribunal is established under Part III of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (CCA) to review decisions of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) on authorisations under the CCA, and decisions of the Treasurer and the ACCC under the National Access Regime.
These reappointments will ensure continuity and support for the Tribunal in considering matters currently before it.
