On Friday 23 July 2021, the Morrison Government reappointed the Honourable Justice John Middleton as the President of the Australian Competition Tribunal (the Tribunal), until 25 December 2022.
Justice Middleton was appointed a Deputy President of the Tribunal in 2009 and President in 2016. He is currently a Justice of the Federal Court of Australia, a Deputy President of the Administrative Appeals Tribunal, a board member of the Victorian Bar Foundation, part-time Commissioner of the Australian Law Reform Commission, a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Law and a member of the American Law Institute. The Government looks forward to Justice Middleton’s continued contribution to the Tribunal.
The Tribunal is established by Part III of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (the CCA). Its functions include reviewing decisions of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) on authorisation applications under Part VII of the CCA, and decisions of the Treasurer and the ACCC under the National Access Regime (NAR) in Part IIIA of the CCA.
