The Government has today announced the appointments of the President and members of the Takeovers Panel.
The Takeovers Panel provides a mechanism for peer review of takeovers activity, with the aim of being more efficient, less formal and more expeditious than the courts.
For the first time, the majority of the Takeovers Panel membership will be women.
Mr Alex Cartel, a current member of the Panel, has been appointed the President of the Panel and will provide strong leadership to the Panel for a three year term from 8 March 2019. The members appointed to the Panel, for the same term, are Ms Amy Alston, Mr Bruce Cowley, Ms Chelsey Drake, Ms Marissa Freund, Mr Michael Borsky QC, Ms Shirley In’t Veld, Ms Denise McComish, Ms Kerry Morrow, Ms Philippa Stone, Mr Kelvin Barry, Mr Robin Bishop, Ms Elizabeth Hallett, Mr John McGlue and Mr Bruce McLennan.
These appointments will maintain the high level of skills and experience available to the Panel, ensuring that it has appropriately qualified members to deal with the range of complex issues which are raised in applications.
The Government thanks the outgoing President, Ms Vickki McFadden, for her outstanding leadership during her more than 10 years’ service on the panel, including six years as the President. The Government also thanks members Ms Sarah Dulhunty, Messrs Peter Day, James Dickson, Rod Halstead and Rodd Levy each of whom have served at least nine years. They have each bought a wealth of experience and knowledge to the Panel.
The functions and powers of the Panel are conferred by the Corporations Act 2001 and the Australian Securities and Investments Commission Act 2001.
