The Minister for Small Business and Assistant Treasurer, the Hon Kelly O’Dwyer MP, today announced the reappointment of Ms Joan Fitzpatrick as the part-time Chair of the Australian Reinsurance Pool Corporation (ARPC) for a further 18 months.
Ms Fitzpatrick has been Chair of the ARPC Board since January 2013 and was previously a board member of the ARPC.
Ms Fitzpatrick has vast board experience and insurance industry knowledge, including as Director of the Victorian Managed Insurance Authority from 2005 to 2014 and as CEO of the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance from 1997 to 2013.
The ARPC administers a scheme that provides insurance cover for eligible terrorism losses involving commercial property, associated business interruption losses and public liability. The scheme was initiated to protect Australia’s economy from the global withdrawal of terrorism insurance for commercial property in the wake of the 2001 terrorist attacks in the United States.
The reappointment is in accordance with the requirements of the Terrorism Insurance Act 2003.
