Consultations on free range eggs information standard – extension for written submissions

Minister for Small Business and Assistant Treasurer the Hon Kelly O’Dwyer MP today announced an extension period for written submissions in response to the egg labelling consultation paper.

“On 5 October 2015 I released the consultation paper exploring options to enhance consumer confidence and certainty around egg labelling,” Minister O’Dwyer said.

“In June, the meeting of federal, state and territory Consumer Affairs Ministers commissioned the paper to seek stakeholder views on a draft Australian national standard on egg labelling, and its potential implications for consumers, producers and the public more generally.

“We want consumers to have a clear understanding of the product types, while considering potential regulatory burdens for producers and retailers.

“Public response to the consultation paper has been significant.

“In response, I have decided to extend the period for written submissions to 27 November 2015.

“It is important that all relevant stakeholders’ views are heard and that there is adequate time to provide those views to governments.

“Consultations will be ongoing throughout the rest of 2015.

“Stakeholder feedback will be essential in informing the development of any final information standard and I encourage interested parties to make a submission,” Minister O’Dwyer said.
