Minister for Small Business and Assistant Treasurer, the Hon Kelly O'Dwyer MP, has issued a safety warning notice for hoverboards under the Competition and Consumer Act 2010.
Minister O'Dwyer said that the ACCC is currently investigating any potential risk of injury to consumers as a result of using hoverboards.
"The ACCC investigation will assess whether the hoverboards will or may cause injury to consumers and whether any regulatory action may be required.
"I encourage consumers to follow ACCC advice and check the recalls website to see if their product or charger has been recalled. Details can be found on the Recalls Australia website: www.recalls.gov.au.
"The ACCC is continuing to coordinate recalls of non-compliant products and has provided consumer safety information on the Recalls Australia and Product Safety Australia websites."
State and territory regulators, who manage electrical safety, are currently investigating if the chargers being supplied with hoverboards meet Australian electrical safety standards.
The Safety Warning Notice is available on the Product Safety Australia website: www.productsafety.gov.au.
