SUBJECTS: Shop Small launch

EDWINA BARTHOLOMEW:

It's a very good morning to Kelly O’Dwyer who is not only the Assistant Treasurer but also the Minister for Small Business, so you know how to make money and how to spend money. Tell us Kelly, why should people get out there and support small business?

MINISTER O’DWYER:

Because small business is the life blood of the Australian economy. There are more than two million small businesses here in Australia. They employ more than 4.5 million people. They give around $340 billion to our national economy and here in Higgins which is where we are today, there are 20,000 of them.

BARTHOLOMEW:

Kochie will be salivating over these figures here Kelly. You are from this local area, what’s your local tip if people are coming to visit?

MINISTER O’DWYER:

My local tip is to go down to Orange for a cup of coffee and a good brekkie but the other thing I would say to you is that for all of the small businesses here today, I’m going to be spreading the news about the announcement the Government made to give them $20,000 instant asset write off for anything that they purchase for their small business that is eligible, any number of items up to the value of $20,000. They can do that up to 1 July, 2017.

BARTHOLOMEW:

Good stuff, because you got up so early, we will allow you to get that plug in. Thank you so much Minister, good to see you.
