The Minister for Revenue and Financial Services, the Hon Kelly O’Dwyer MP, is pleased to announce that the Governor-General recently appointed Ms Tara Page and reappointed Mr Robert McKenzie as part-time members of the Takeovers Panel until 22 March 2020.
The Panel is a peer review body that is the main forum for resolving disputes in takeovers. The Panel was established with the aim of being more efficient, less formal and more expeditious than the courts. The functions and powers of the Panel are conferred by the Corporations Act 2001 and the Australian Securities and Investments Commission Act 2001.
Mr McKenzie is a company director at Keystart Loans Ltd and a former partner at both Jackson McDonald and Clayton Utz. He has acted in a number of takeovers matters and successful Panel applications. He holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Jurisprudence from the University of Western Australia. He has been a member of the Panel since 2014. Mr McKenzie was first nominated by the Western Australian Attorney-General.
Ms Page is a partner at Thomson Geer and a former senior associate at Freehills. She specialises in mergers and acquisitions, public and private capital raising, joint ventures and transaction financing. She holds a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) from the University of Adelaide.
These appointments will further maintain the high level of skills and experience available to the Panel, ensuring that it has appropriately qualified members to deal with the range of complex issues which are raised in applications.
