Reappointments to the Australian Reinsurance Pool Corporation

Note

The Minister for Revenue and Financial Services, the Hon Kelly O'Dwyer MP, today announced the reappointments of Ms Elaine Collins, Ms Janet Torney and Mr John Peberdy as part-time members of the Australian Reinsurance Pool Corporation Board (ARPC).

"Ms Collins, Ms Torney and Mr Peberdy have been valuable part-time members of the ARPC since 2015 and I am pleased to reappoint each of them for a further three years from 1 July 2018 to 30 June 2021," Minister O'Dwyer said.

The ARPC is a statutory authority established by the Terrorism Insurance Act 2003 (the Act) administering Australia's terrorism insurance scheme. This scheme was established in the wake of 2001 terrorist attacks in the United States to protect Australia's economy from the global withdrawal of terrorism insurance for commercial property.

"Each part-time member brings extensive experience to the Board and I welcome their continued contribution to the important work of the ARPC," Minister O'Dwyer said.

Ms Collins has more than 25 years' experience in the insurance industry providing consulting services to several insurers. She is currently serving as a non-executive director of Motor Accident Insurance Board and as a non‑executive director of Zurich Australia Insurance.

Ms Torney has extensive experience in investment management and corporate governance that complement the insurance industry experience of existing Board members. She is currently serving as a Principal of JT Consult, providing strategic governance, business and investment advice, and as a non‑executive director of Whitehelm Capital.

Mr Peberdy has extensive experience in the insurance sector, particularly in general insurance. He will also bring extensive Board experience in the insurance sector. He is currently serving as Chairman of EA Insurance Services that provides insurance advice and risk management services, and as a Deputy Chairman of Christian Super.
