An Australia-wide small business roadshow headed by Small Business Minister Michael McCormack was in Berwick today, as local MP Jason Wood and the Minister toured businesses on High Street.
“Small business around Australia is our economy’s job-creator, from large centres to suburban communities and throughout rural and regional Australia,” Mr McCormack said.
“They are the people who have a go, take a risk and hire Australians. That’s why the Government has a plan to back businesses on High Street in Berwick and right around Australia.
“Having run my own small business, I know how tax cuts and simpler paperwork will help Australia’s 2.1 million small businesses grow, invest and hire more people. That’s what our plan will do and I have met many businesses on High Street which we want to boost.
La Trobe MP Jason Wood and Mr McCormack met with Andrew Kaigg, whose Nomadic café would benefit from the Coalition’s planned tax cut.
Mr Wood said the café highlighted the best of small business support in local communities.
“It’s great to see small businesses like Nomadic making such an impact on our local area. Andrew and his team at Nomadic are genuine contributors to our community, particularly on Wednesdays where they donate 10 per cent of their profit to our local Country Fire Authority,” Mr Wood said.
Mr Kaigg said the costs of running a small business would be easier with a tax cut and simpler paperwork, as well as helping continue its support for the CFA.
“We have been a part of this community for a few years now, and I look forward to many more on the High Street in Berwick,” Mr Kaigg said.
“The stresses on small businesses, particularly in hospitality, are so often unknown by patrons. From having to re-gas the fridges, or paying our electricity bill, it‘s tough.”
Mr Wood said the Government’s tax cut plan has community-minded businesses at the forefront.
“Across our community, I have met small businesspeople who embody the best of a supportive local community, either through giving locals a job or supporting various community groups,” Mr Wood said.
“It’s in all our interests to give these small businesses the best chance to hire more and help more, through the practical support of a tax cut and simpler paperwork.”
Mr McCormack and Mr Wood also met with a forum of local small business owners this morning.
