Tax cuts, reductions in red tape and levelling the playing field for small business through fairer competition policy is front and centre in a nationwide roadshow starting today, Small Business Minister Michael McCormack says.
Starting in suburban Adelaide, the roadshow will meet directly with small businesses over shop counters, farm gates and kitchen tables in home businesses, as well as local forums, as the Small Business Minister continues fighting for a fairer deal for Australia’s 2.1 million small businesses.
"There is no better way to understand the needs and aspirations of Australia’s small businesses than to meet with them directly – in their shops, farms and offices – to hear firsthand how the Government can help," Mr McCormack said.
"The Coalition has delivered a lot for small business in red tape reduction, the instant asset write-off programme and protecting our owner-driver truckies, just to name a few, but I know there is more work to do."
Mr McCormack has invited senior staff from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, Australian Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman and the Australian Tax Office to join his nationwide roadshow to showcase services they have available for small business.
"I am serious about delivering tax cuts to the lowest level for small business in 50 years and levelling the playing field for small business, and its important agencies of Government hear that feedback too," Mr McCormack said.
"It is small business – not Government – which creates jobs, higher wages and better opportunities for Australians; from the inland to the coast, in the cities and the suburbs, as well as across rural and regional Australia.
"That’s why I have brought bureaucracies from Canberra here to listen with me as we all work to cut taxes and improve small business competitiveness."
Mr McCormack’s first roundtable will be held from 12.30pm today at the Mitcham RSL Club in Kingswood, South Australia, and will include Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman Kate Carnell AO, ACCC Deputy Chair Dr Michael Schaper, along with Boothby MP Nicolle Flint.
