I am pleased to announce the appointment of Ms Michele Embling as a part-time member of the Financial Reporting Council (FRC), representing the New Zealand External Reporting Board (XRB).
The FRC is the peak body responsible for overseeing the effectiveness of the financial reporting framework in Australia. Its key functions include the oversight of the accounting and auditing standards setting processes for the public and private sectors, providing strategic advice in relation to the quality of audits conducted by Australian auditors and advising the Minister on these and related matters to the extent that they affect the financial reporting framework in Australia.
Ms Embling has been appointed from 10 October 2019 up to and including the 30 April 2024. This term corresponds with her term as Chair of the New Zealand XRB. Ms Embling will continue to provide an important trans-Tasman perspective on the FRC, which will continue to assist in maintaining harmonisation between Australia and New Zealand’s financial reporting frameworks.
I would like to thank Mr Graeme Mitchell, the former New Zealand XRB Chair, for his contribution to the FRC over the past five years.
The FRC has nine members, including the Chair, all of whom are appointed on a part-time basis.
