Senator Nick Sherry, Minister for Superannuation and Corporate Law, is pleased to announce the appointment of two new part-time members and the reappointment of 12 part-time members to the Superannuation Complaints Tribunal (SCT).
"These appointments and reappointments will maintain the high level of skills and experience available to the SCT, ensuring that the SCT has appropriately qualified members to deal with the full range of issues which arise in this important area," Minister Sherry said.
Dr Michaela Anderson and Mr Brian Lacey have each been appointed as new members for a three-year period.
Professor John Hart and Mr Paul Kierce have each been reappointed for a further three-year period. Mrs Jane Abbott, Dr Catherine Dean, Mrs Janet Martin, Dr Diana Olsberg and Miss Elizabeth Anne Shanahan have each been reappointed for a further three-year period from 13 November 2008; and Messrs Colin Cassidy, Noel Davis, Scott Ellis and Jeff Humphreys and Dr David Thomas have also been reappointed for a further three-year period from 1 December 2008.
The SCT was established by the Superannuation (Resolution of Complaints) Act 1993.
It provides a fast, low-cost and informal alternative to the courts for the resolution of certain superannuation complaints.
If complaints cannot be resolved by conciliation, the SCT may review the decisions or conduct to which the complaints relate.
The SCT currently consists of a Chairperson, Deputy Chairperson and 18 part-time members. Part-time members help to hear complaints. They are appointed by the Minister and generally come from actuarial, legal, medical and/or superannuation backgrounds.
