The Assistant Treasurer, Senator Nick Sherry, today announced the signing of a bilateral Tax Information Exchange Agreement (TIEA) that will allow the exchange of tax information between Australia and Anguilla.
"Anguilla is the fifteenth jurisdiction to sign such an agreement with Australia," the Assistant Treasurer said.
"This new treaty reflects the growing commitment by jurisdictions around the world to commit to the accepted international principles of greater tax transparency and the elimination harmful tax practices."
"As Chair of the Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information, Australia is at the forefront of the international effort to combat harmful tax competition."
"The Rudd Government welcomes Anguilla's constructive engagement in this area."
"The rapidly growing list of jurisdictions joining Australia's treaty network reflects the Rudd Government's leadership in driving the take-up of international standards of tax transparency."
The agreement has been signed in London by the Chief Minister of Anguilla, Hubert Hughes, and the Australian Deputy High Commissioner in London, Adam McCarthy.
This agreement will enter into force after Anguilla, a British overseas territory in the Caribbean, and Australia have completed their relevant domestic requirements.
Copies of the agreements are available on the Treasury website.
