The Federal Government will provide a total of $10 million towards two key projects on Hepburn Avenue, Treasurer Peter Costello announced today.
The Federal funding of $10 million will be allocated as follows :
- $5 million to the City of Wanneroo towards their Hepburn Avenue Upgrade project, that will upgrade Hepburn Avenue to four-lane dual carriageway standard from Bellerive Boulevard to Alexander Drive. The total cost of the project is estimated to be $6.765 million; and
- $5 million to the City of Swan towards their Hepburn Avenue Extension project, that will ultimately deliver an extension of Hepburn Avenue from Alexander Drive, where it currently ends, to the Reid Highway. The cost of Stage 1 of this project is estimated to be $9.4 million.
Each project will receive the Australian Government funding through the AusLink Strategic Regional Programme. Both Councils will also be contributing funding towards their respective projects. The Western Australian Government will be expected to contribute funding to both projects.
I wish to particularly acknowledge the tireless representations of Luke Simpkins, Liberal Candidate for Cowan, to secure this commitment for the benefit of the local community, and the entire region.
Both the City of Swan and the City of Wanneroo are to be commended for their efforts in planning the strategic upgrading and expansion of Hepburn Avenue, a key artery for the communities in this area.
Liberal Candidate for Cowan, Luke Simpkins, warmly welcomed the Treasurer’s announcement :
“Hepburn Avenue is a vital artery for our area. Like everybody else who lives in our community, I see first hand the current congestion and safety problems. That is why I have been fighting so hard to secure this commitment,” Mr Simpkins said.
“It’s great the Federal Government has acted and provided $10 million towards delivering these solutions. But our hard work doesn’t stop there. The State Government is also responsible and I’m going to pressure Alannah MacTiernan to do her bit too. Our community expects nothing less.”
