ACCC Appointments

The Treasurer, Mr Peter Costello, today announced the re-appointment of Mr Sitesh Bhojani to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) as a full-time member for a four year term beginning on 10 November 1999.

Mr Costello also announced the re-appointment to the ACCC of Mr Paul Baxter, the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Commissioner of the Australian Capital Territory. Mr Baxter has been appointed as an associate member on an ex officio basis for a term which will expire on 30 June 2004, the same day as his Territory office.

Mr Bhojani was appointed as a full-time member from the Perth Bar on the creation of the ACCC on 6 November 1995. Since his initial appointment, he has specialised in matters relating to enforcement activities (as a member of the ACCC’s Enforcement Committee), the professions and the health sector.

Mr Baxter’s re-appointment to the ACCC follows his re-appointment as the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Commissioner of the Australian Capital Territory. Mr Baxter has served on the ACCC’s Energy Committee since his initial appointment in 1998.

These re-appointments bring to 21 the number of persons appointed to the Commission. The full-time members from 10 November are:

Chairman Professor Allan Fels.
Deputy Chairman Mr Allan Asher.
Full-time members Mr Sitesh Bhojani, Dr David Cousins, Mr Ross Jones,
Mr John Martin and Mr Rod Shogren.
