Today I am announcing the Government’s decision to introduce legislation to ensure that qualifying gifts to the Lord Somers Camp and Power House continue to be tax deductible.
The Lord Somers Camp and Power House runs programs providing opportunities for youth to develop leadership and personal skills. The camp runs a number of programs throughout the year, including ‘Big Camps’, a week long camp for 16 to 18 year olds aiming to develop teamwork, self-confidence, tolerance and leadership skills; and ‘Camp Diversity’, a week long camp for youth with chronic illness or physical disabilities to promote their self esteem and confidence.
The specific listing of the Camp will ensure that donors continue to receive a tax deduction for their gifts, and will assist the Camp in its provision of important development opportunities for youth and benefits to the community more broadly.
Legislation to give effect to this announcement will be introduced as soon as practicable.
Taxpayers should ensure they receive a receipt for their donation.
