Further $1 million to restore St Georges in Perth

The Treasurer today announced $1 million of Australian Government funding to further assist with the restoration of St George’s Cathedral in Perth.

The funding comes on the 126th anniversary year of the laying of the foundation stone of St George’s Cathedral.

This new funding follows $3 million provided to the Cathedral, which was announced by the Treasurer in May 2004.

The Treasurer today visited the Cathedral to inspect the works. As part of the restoration works, the roof will be restored to its original appearance. The Bell tower will also be repaired and the Fleche is being replaced.

Also announced on Budget night was $1 million for St Patrick’s Basilica in Fremantle.
