The Treasurer today received the Recommendations of the Tax Consultative Committee.
Mr David Vos, Partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers chaired the Tax Consultative Committee which was asked to provide recommendations to the Government on the precise scope of the GST-free areas of health, education, religious services and the non-commercial activities of charities. The Committee was also asked to examine transitional arrangements relating to motor vehicles.
Mr Vos was joined by Professor Tannock, Vice-Chancellor at the University of Notre Dame and Chairman of the National Catholic Education Commission, and Professor Judith Whitworth, Commonwealth Chief Medical Officer and Professor of Medicine, University of New South Wales at St George Hospital.
The Committee has provided the Government with a workable and comprehensive framework for applying the GST to the areas under scrutiny.
The Government will be reviewing each of the Committees Recommendations and will consider these in the process of finalising the drafting of the legislation.
The Treasurer thanked Mr Vos and his fellow Committee members for their valuable efforts in helping the Government in this important task.
