Today I am announcing that the Government has decided to amend the income tax law to allow tax deductions for gifts to the value of $2 or more to the Mount Macedon Memorial Cross Restoration, Development and Maintenance Trust Fund.
As a result, gifts made to the Fund after 30 June 2000 and before 1 July 2001 will be tax deductible.
The Fund was established to raise money for the ongoing maintenance of the Mount Macedon Memorial Cross.
The Cross was built in 1934-35 to commemorate the memory of those who served in the Great War, and is considered to be one of the most significant war memorials in Victoria.
Legislation to give effect to the Governments decision was introduced into the Parliament today.
The address for donations is:
Mount Macedon Memorial Cross Restoration, Development and Maintenance Trust
PO Box 175
MACEDON VIC 3440
Taxpayers should ensure that they receive a receipt for their donation.
