Visit to the United States and Europe, 24 September - 8 October

From 24 September to 8 October inclusive the Treasurer will be visiting Washington, Boston, Dublin and London to attend a series of key meetings and functions.

Central to the trip will be a visit to Washington to represent Australia at the Annual Meetings of the Board of Governors of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. Australia has been an important contributor in recent years to discussions on how to improve the operations of the international financial system and the Treasurer will be encouraging the IMF and World Bank to continue pressing ahead in this area.

In Europe, the Treasurer will be meeting with senior Government Ministers in the United Kingdom and Ireland, members of the financial and business communities to discuss aspects of economic developments and policy, and promote Australia as an investment destination for financial institutions.

The Minister for Finance and Administration, Hon John Fahey MP, will be acting Treasurer during this time (media enquiries can be directed to Andrew Maiden on 0412 005 589 in Minister Fahey’s office).
