Kim Beazley and Labor still refuse to support the most dynamic reforms to superannuation in our nation’s history, instead serving up ‘re-heated’ Mark Latham ideas.
Rather than backing the Government’s dynamic reforms, Nick Sherry today exhumed Mark Latham’s old election policy announcements and repackaged them with the standard Kim Beazley inspired waffle.
Kim Beazley and his spokesman still refuse to say whether or not they support:
- abolishing end benefits tax on superannuation;
- abolishing reasonable benefits limits;
- extending the co-contribution scheme to the self employed; and
- halving the age pension assets test taper rate to $1.50 per fortnight from 20 September 2007.
Today’s re-announcement by Labor is ‘classic’ Kim Beazley. Broad statements made on a range of old ideas, with no details and no idea of how to pay for it and a simple note at the end saying, ‘we’ll tell you closer to the election’.
Labor should stop pretending to care about Australians’ retirement and actually make the stand to back the Government’s reforms.
Australians simply can’t afford Labor’s ‘re-heated’ approach to policy making, just like Australians can’t afford Labor’s ‘re-heated’ leader.
