Deductibility of Gifts to the Bathurst War Memorial Carillon Public Fund Trust

Today, the Minister for Revenue and Assistant Treasurer, Peter Dutton, has announced that gifts of $2 or more donated to the Bathurst War Memorial Carillon Public Fund Trust (the Trust) are tax deductible from 3 August 2007 for a 2 year period.

The Bathurst War Memorial Carillon (the Carillon), also known as the Bathurst and District Soldiers’ Memorial Carillon, was built by the citizens of Bathurst.  The primary objective of the Trust is to raise funds to rebuild the Carillon to the original plans following damage caused by a lightning strike in 2001.  The Carillon was built in 1933 as a memorial to the men of Bathurst and district who served during the First World War, and in all conflicts since.

Taxpayers should ensure they receive a receipt for their donation.

Legislation to amend the Income Tax Assessment Act 1997 to give effect to this announcement will be introduced as soon as practicable.
