Deductibility of Gifts to the Lingiari Policy Centre

The Minister for Revenue and Assistant Treasurer, the Hon Peter Dutton MP, has announced that from 26 July 2006 gifts of $2 or more donated to the Lingiari Policy Centre are tax deductible.

The Lingiari Policy Centre was established to help secure for Indigenous Australians full cultural, social and economic participation in Australia through the development of a leadership and policy framework for Indigenous rights, responsibilities and representation.

The primary objective of the Centre is to facilitate the social and economic advancement of Indigenous Australians through the generation and promulgation of informed and creative ideas, research and opinion on issues of national importance to Indigenous Australians.

Taxpayers should ensure that they receive a receipt for their donation.

Legislation to amend the Income Tax Assessment Act 1997 to give effect to this announcement will be introduced as soon as practicable.
