Deductibility of Gifts to Memorial(s) Development Committee

Today, the Minister for Revenue and Assistant Treasurer, the Hon Peter Dutton MP, has announced that gifts of $2 or more donated to the Memorial(s) Development Committee (MDC) are tax deductible from 5 September 2007 until 30 June 2010.

There is currently no national memorial in Canberra to commemorate Australia’s involvement in World War I and World War II which together had the greatest loss of life in Australia’s military history.

The MDC is an organisation established to develop, design and construct two separate but complementary memorials to WWI and WWII in the Anzac Parade memorials precinct of Canberra.

Taxpayers should ensure they receive a receipt for their donation.

Legislation to give effect to the Government’s decision will be introduced as soon as practicable.
