Deductibility of Gifts to the State and Territory Associations of Kidsafe

Today, the Minister for Revenue and Assistant Treasurer, Peter Dutton, has announced that gifts of $2 or more donated to the state and territory associations of Kidsafe are tax deductible from 3 August 2007. 

Kidsafe is a non-profit, non-government organisation that is dedicated to the prevention of unintended injury and death to children.  Kidsafe conducts injury prevention programmes and media campaigns, develops educational resources and initiates special programmes to raise awareness of child safety issues and injury prevention throughout the community. 

The state and territory associations of Kidsafe are Kidsafe ACT (Inc.), Kidsafe New South Wales (Inc.), Kidsafe QLD (Inc.), Kidsafe Vic (Inc.), Kidsafe SA Incorporated, Kidsafe Western Australia (Inc), Kidsafe NT (Inc.), and Kidsafe Tasmania (Inc).

Taxpayers should ensure they receive a receipt for their donation.

Legislation to amend the Income Tax Assessment Act 1997 to give effect to this announcement will be introduced as soon as practicable.
