Kim Beazleys three minds policy on superannuation: Yes, No, Maybe

It’s now been 82 days since the Federal Budget and Kim Beazley is still unable to make up his mind on whether or not to support the Government’s superannuation reform package.

It’s not too late for Mr Beazley to support the most significant reforms to superannuation in Australia’s history.

Kim Beazley’s superannuation spokesperson, Senator Nick Sherry, will this week be speaking at the Investment and Financial Services Association (IFSA) conference on the Gold Coast.

This is the perfect opportunity for Senator Sherry to stand up and tell Australians why Kim Beazley can’t say or refuses to say where he stands on superannuation.

At the IFSA conference, Senator Sherry should finally tell Australians that Labor will completely support the Government’s super reforms, including:

  • abolishing end benefits tax on superannuation;
  • abolishing reasonable benefits limits;
  • extending the co-contribution scheme to the self employed; and
  • halving the age pension assets test taper rate to $1.50 per fortnight from 20 September 2007.

If Senator Sherry fails to do this, he will confirm what most Australians already think about Kim Beazley and Labor – no one knows what they stand for.
