Gifts to Overseas Aid Funds

The Assistant Treasurer, Senator Rod Kemp, announced today that gifts to the Australian Society for Intercountry Aid (Children) Victoria International (ASIAC (Vic)) Aid Fund and the Christian Brothers Foundation Overseas Aid Fund will be tax deductible from the date of notice in the Commonwealth of Australia Gazette. This is expected to occur shortly. Both overseas aid funds have been established to provide relief for persons in certified developing countries.

The ASIAC (Vic) International Aid Fund provides aid to children at risk (ie orphans in orphanages, day care centres and nutritional centres) in India, the Philippines, Thailand, Fiji and Sri Lanka. Aid is provided in the form of cash, clothing, medical, pharmaceutical and educational equipment.

The Christian Brothers Foundation Overseas Aid Fund provides various forms of welfare assistance to Kenya, Tanzania and Sudan. The forms of aid provided include education, vocational training, accommodation to underprivileged youth, assistance in the provision of water to farmlands and communities, and support to people with AIDS.

To be tax deductible, the gifts must be $2 or more.
