Charter of Budget Honesty Passes Senate

The Senates passing of the Charter of Budget Honesty Bill means that Australia now has a world leading framework of budgetary disclosure, the Assistant Treasurer Senator Rod Kemp said today.

The legislation delivers on the Governments pre-election promise to ensure that the people of Australia are honestly informed of the nations financial position before an election.

It also means that we will never again see the sort of deceit practiced by the former Labor Government, when Mr Beazley promised the Australian people that the budget was in surplus when in fact it was in deficit of more than $10 billion.
