Deductibility of Gifts to the Foundation for Gambling Studies

Gifts to the value of $2 or more made to the Foundation for Gambling Studies after today will be deductible for income tax purposes, the Assistant Treasurer, Senator Rod Kemp, announced today.

The Foundation for Gambling Studies has been established to support independent research on gambling. Tax deductible gift status will assist the Foundation to attract public support for its activities which include funding scholarships and commissioning research. Reliable and independent research will assist the Government and the community to develop policies relating to gambling.

This announcement follows the Government’s recent response to the final report of the Productivity Commission on Australia’s gambling industries.

Legislation to give effect to the Government’s decision will be introduced as soon as practicable.
