Kim Beazley and Simon Crean have exposed major policy divisions in the federal Labor Party by contradicting each other, this time over superannuation, Assistant Treasurer, Senator Rod Kemp said today.
Simon Crean has "signaled" that the ALP is planning to allow Australians to dip into their superannuation to finance private spending on health, education and training, if they win the next election.
However, Kim Beazley said to a CEDA luncheon on March 16th that: "Labor’s ongoing task is to repel further attacks on the existing superannuation system…"
"If Simon Crean is to be believed, Labor plans major changes to the principles of Australia’s superannuation system – changes that would undermine its fundamentals," Senator Kemp said.
"If Mr Beazley is to be believed, Labor’s policy on superannuation is totally contradictory to the Shadow Treasurer’s position."
Once again, Kim Beazley has been embarrassed by Labor Party inconsistencies over policy - now a regular occurrence under his leadership.
