Appointment of Second Commissioner of Taxation

The Assistant Treasurer, Senator Rod Kemp, announced today that the Governor-General has appointed Mr Michael DAscenzo to the position of Second Commissioner of Taxation. The appointment is for a term of seven years.

Mr DAscenzos career covers 20 years of wide ranging responsibilities in the Australian Taxation Office (ATO). He has held the position of Chief Tax Counsel for the last three years. In that role he has worked to raise the quality of ATO tax technical decision making, particularly in relation to public rulings. Mr DAscenzos skills and contribution to tax administration are widely respected in the professional and business community.

The position became vacant on the appointment of Mr Richard Highfield to a tax advisory position in the International Monetary Fund in Moscow.
