The Assistant Treasurer Senator Rod Kemp, today announced that gifts to the value of $2 or more made to Australia for UNHCR from today to 27 June 2002 will be deductible for income tax purposes.
The Australia for UNHCR has been established to raise funds to conduct educational, promotional and fundraising activities on behalf of the UNHCR in Australia to support the work of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
Tax deductible gift status will assist Australia for UNHCR to attract public support for its activities.
Legislation to give effect to the Governments decision will be introduced as soon as practicable and taxpayers should ensure that they receive a receipt for their donation
