Deductibilty of Gifts to Overseas AID Funds

The Assistant Treasurer, Senator Rod Kemp, today announced that from 28 June 2000, gifts to the value of $2 or more made to International Needs Overseas Assistance and Development Fund, Australian Volunteers International Donations Account and the Orthopaedic Outreach Fund will be deductible for income tax purposes.

The Funds have been established to raise money for the relief of persons in developing countries.

The Australian Volunteers International Donations Account was previously called the Overseas Service Bureau Donations Account while the Orthopaedic Outreach Fund was previously called the Fiji Orthopaedic Training Programme Fund. Accordingly, gifts to the previously named funds will no longer be tax deductible from today.
