Deductibility of Gifts to the Sir Hughie Edwards VC Foundation Incorporated

The Assistant Treasurer Senator Rod Kemp, announced that gifts to the value of $2 or more made to the Sir Hughie Edwards VC Foundation Incorporated from today to 22 August 2003 will be deductible for income tax purposes.

The Sir Hughie Edwards VC Foundation Incorporated has been established to raise funds for the construction of a monument in the city of Fremantle to the memory of Sir Hughie Edwards VC, the most highly decorated Australian airman of World War Two.

Tax deductible gift status will assist the Foundation to attract public support for its activities.

Legislation to give effect to the Government's decision will be introduced as soon as practicable and taxpayers should ensure that they receive a receipt for their donation.
