Deductibility of Gifts to the Australian Council of Christians and Jews

Gifts to the value of $2 or more to the Australian Council of Christians & Jews will be deductible for income tax purposes, the Assistant Treasurer, Senator Rod Kemp, announced today.

The Council’s objectives are to educate and promote the study of Christians and Jews to enable each religion to appreciate the other’s distinctive beliefs and practices and also their common ground. They will also concentrate on research into causes of conflicts between Christians and Jews.

By providing a forum for educating Christians and Jews to understand their different and shared religious beliefs and practices, the Council fulfils a vital role in the creation of harmony between those of different religious faiths, thereby contributing to the national wellbeing. Tax deductible gift status will assist the Council to attract public support for its activities.

Legislation to give effect to the Government’s decision will be introduced as soon as practicable.
