Deductibility of Gifts to the Australian Ex-Prisoners of War Memorial Fund

The Assistant Treasurer Senator Rod Kemp, today announced that gifts to the value of $2 or more made to the Australian Ex-Prisoners of War Memorial Fund from today to 19 October 2001 will be deductible for income tax purposes.

The Australian Ex-Prisoners of War Memorial Fund has been established to raise funds for a national memorial to be erected in the City of Ballarat, with the objective being to promote community recognition of the service and sacrifice made by Australian Prisoners of War.

Tax deductible gift status will assist the Fund to attract public support for its activities.

Legislation to give effect to the Government’s decision will be introduced as soon as practicable and taxpayers should ensure that they receive a receipt for their donation.
