The Assistant Treasurer, Senator Rod Kemp, today announced that the Government has decided to amend the income tax law to extend the period during which tax deductible gifts of $2 or more can be made to the St Patrick’s Cathedral Parramatta Rebuilding Fund.
As a result, gifts made to the Fund after 24 February 1998 and before 25 February 2002 will be tax deductible.
The Fund was established to raise money to rebuild the St Patrick’s Cathedral, Parramatta which was destroyed by fire on 19 February 1996.
Legislation to give effect to the Government’s decision will be introduced as soon as practicable.
