Influencers on notice, be upfront with followers

Consumers have the right to be protected from misleading claims and deceptive sales techniques, whether they do their buying online or at a shop.

That’s why the Albanese Government is welcoming an ACCC crackdown on social influencers, particularly when it comes to product endorsements.

Commercial arrangements need to be disclosed when influencers recommend a product so consumers can make fair and informed decisions.

Starting today, the consumer watchdog is conducting a sweep of 100 social influencers across four social media platforms.

The ACCC’s compliance program puts social influencers on notice to be up front with their followers and disclose commercial relationships.
