The Albanese Government welcomes today’s launch of a new baby product safety education initiative by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission.
Your First Steps is a website for new parents and carers with advice for the safe purchase, installation and use of products for their babies.
It provides up‑to‑date safety information and advice for products designed sooth babies, or help them sleep, play, move, bathe or change.
Your First Steps aims to bring product safety front‑of‑mind for those who are at the beginning of their parenting journey and foster an ongoing focus on this important aspect of parenting.
Your First Steps covers commonly used baby products that parents may not realise can be dangerous.
This can include cots and prams, which should be well made, comply with standards and used properly.
Your First Steps also covers products that parents often turn to when settling and soothing a baby, including sleep aids and inclined products like bouncers, rockers and swings.
Following the advice in Your First Steps will help prevent many common incidents that might otherwise cause injury to a baby.
Visit the ACCC Product Safety website for the full guide to the steps you can take to keep your baby safe.
