The Albanese Government has appointed 17 part-time members to the Takeovers Panel, each for a three-year period beginning on 2 April 2022.
The Panel is the primary dispute resolution forum during takeover bids. The Panel’s role is to improve the certainty, efficiency, and fairness of Australia’s takeovers market by resolving disputes in a fair, timely, consistent, informal and sound manner, and publishing clear, well-developed guidance. The Panel plays an important role in ensuring Australia’s capital markets remain efficient and competitive.
The appointees are:
- Ms Sylvia Falzon;
- Mr Joseph (Joe) Fayyad;
- Ms Louise Higgins;
- Dr Ruth Higgins SC;
- Ms Emma-Jane Newton;
- Dr Kristina Stern SC;
- Ms Erin Tinker;
- Ms Kathleen (Kate) Towey;
- Ms Yasmin Allen;
- Ms Michelle Jablko;
- Mr Christian Johnston;
- Ms Kristen Jung;
- Mr Michael Lishman;
- Ms Rebecca Maslen-Stannage;
- Ms Diana Nicholson;
- Mr Neil Pathak; and
- Mr James Stewart.
These appointments ensure the Panel has appropriately qualified members to deal with the range of complex issues which are raised in applications.
