Judi Zielke PSM appointed new CEO of the Australian Research Council

The Morrison Government has appointed Ms Judi Zielke PSM to the position of Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Research Council (ARC).

Acting Minister for Education and Youth Stuart Robert said Ms Zielke’s appointment was for a five‑year period and follows her role as acting ARC CEO since 1 February 2022. Ms Zielke has been appointed after a transparent and merit‑based selection process.

‘I congratulate Ms Zielke on her appointment as CEO and I acknowledge the strong public sector experience that she brings to the Australian Research Council,’ Minister Robert said.

‘Ms Zielke has been acting ARC CEO since February and was previously the Chief Operating Officer at the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO). She also has a broad range of experience having worked across industry, trade, and Attorney‑General’s portfolios. Throughout her career, she has been a champion of Australian research.

‘The ARC plays a pivotal role in supporting Australian research and is valued by the Government and the wider Australian research community as a trusted, independent organisation.

‘Ms Zielke’s appointment comes at a critical time where the Government is working to ensure that publicly funded research has even greater impacts on Australia’s economic and societal challenges.

‘I would like to thank Ms Zielke for the work she has done to progress my Letter of Expectations in a short period of time as Acting CEO.

‘I look forward to working with Ms Zielke and the expert ARC team that she leads.’

Ms Zielke said: ‘The significant work of the ARC could not be achieved without the contributions and support of the team, the research sector and Government. I look forward to continuing to work with everyone to maximise the impact of Australia's world leading university research.’
