Appointment of Full-time Second Commissioner to the Australian Taxation Office

Note

The Hon. David Bradbury MP
Assistant Treasurer
Minister Assisting for Deregulation

The Government is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Geoff Leeper as a full-time Second Commissioner to the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) for a seven-year period.

The ATO is the Government's principal revenue collection agency. The role of the ATO is to manage and shape the administration of the tax, excise and superannuation systems that fund services for Australians.

Mr Leeper brings a broad range of experience, including leadership of large scale operations.

Mr Leeper is currently Deputy Secretary at the Department of Regional Australia, Local Government, Arts and Sport - a position he has held since February 2011. Prior to this, Mr Leeper held senior positions in the Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency, the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs, the Department of Human Services, and Medicare Australia.

Mr Leeper is replacing Mr David Butler who resigned from his position earlier in the year after a long period of valued service. Mr Leeper will be starting his appointment in early October 2012.

The Government congratulates Mr Leeper on his appointment to the ATO and takes this opportunity to thank Mr Butler for his valuable contribution over the years.
