Philippines Floods

Note

Joint Media Release with
The Hon Kevin Rudd MP
Minister for Foreign Affairs

The Australian Government and people have been deeply saddened by the loss of life and damage caused by the severe flooding in the southern Philippines.

Through our partnership with the Philippine National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council and the Philippine Red Cross, the Australian Government has pre-positioned stocks of emergency relief supplies which are currently being mobilised for distribution to flood affected families as soon as possible.

Australia has experienced serious flooding, and understands well the substantial challenges facing the Philippines at this time. The Government stands ready to provide additional relief assistance, and is working closely with the Philippine Government to identify areas of need to help target further Australian support.

Australia and the Philippines share a close and friendly partnership. Our thoughts are with the people of the Philippines during this difficult period.
