Jim Chalmers 2022
The Hon Dr Jim Chalmers MP
Treasurer
Doorstop interview, Canberra
JOURNALIST:
As a matter of principle, would it be a good show to the Reserve Bank, that your Government is serious about spending restraint if we see a surplus?
JIM CHALMERS:
Interview with Sarah Abo, Today Show, Channel 9
SARAH ABO:
Thanks so much for your time today. This, of course, was a very big call from the Reserve Bank Governor yesterday. Philip Lowe caught a lot of analysts off guard, some of them saying that it might have even been pretty vindictive because of your changes to the RBA. What do you make of it?
JIM CHALMERS:
Interview with Kenny Heatley, First Edition, Sky News
KENNY HEATLEY:
Joining me live from Canberra is Treasurer Jim Chalmers. Thanks for your time this morning, Treasurer. Quite the shock to households just ahead of your Budget next week.
JIM CHALMERS:
Interview with Michael Rowland, News Breakfast, ABC
MICHAEL ROWLAND:
Treasurer, good morning.
JIM CHALMERS:
Good morning, Michael.
ROWLAND:
Did you see this one coming?
CHALMERS:
Interview with Patricia Karvelas, RN Breakfast, ABC
PATRICIA KARVELAS:
Treasurer Jim Chalmers is our guest this morning. Treasurer, good morning.
JIM CHALMERS:
Good morning, Patricia.
KARVELAS:
Treasurer, is a Budget surplus possible next week given the magnitude of recent commodity‑based revenue upgrades?
CHALMERS:
Introducing payday super
The Albanese Government will require super to be paid on payday, a reform that will benefit the retirement incomes of millions of Australians.
From 1 July 2026, employers will be required to pay their employees’ super at the same time as their salary and wages.
Small Business Energy Incentive
Small business operators will be front and centre in next month’s Budget with a new tax incentive to help propel their energy transformation.
The Small Business Energy Incentive will help up to 3.8 million small‑ and medium‑sized businesses save energy and save on their energy bills.
Government enshrines workers’ right to superannuation
The Albanese Labor Government is moving to protect more workers from underpayment of superannuation contributions.
New legislation to be introduced into Parliament this week will enshrine a right to superannuation payments in the National Employment Standards.
This measure is part of the Albanese Labor Government’s Protecting Worker Entitlements Bill.
