Next steps in streamlining Australia’s financial reporting architecture
The Albanese Government is streamlining Australia’s financial reporting bodies to help build a more competitive, dynamic and productive economy.
Today we are releasing a consultation paper to gather insights and feedback on how we can restructure our financial reporting architecture to make it more efficient, effective and fit for purpose.
Press conference, Parliament House, Canberra
Jim Chalmers:
This Saturday marks a very important anniversary.
This Saturday is a year since Anthony Albanese and I announced that we were going to give a tax cut to every Australian taxpayer.
That was contentious at the time but it was the right decision made for the right reasons.
Interview with Karl Stefanovic, Today Show, Channel 9

Well, the Albanese government has this morning revealed that wage growth and tax cuts will see millions of Australians pocket an extra $1,800 come tax time, but it won’t be enough to ease growing frustration over the cost of living. For more, we’re joined by Treasurer, Jim Chalmers, live from Canberra.
G’day Jim, nice to see you.

To Canberra now, and it’s now a year since the federal government made a controversial decision to break an election promise and change plans for stage 3 tax cuts, and as we get closer to a federal election, the Treasurer claims the pivot has helped more people and even more will benefit from July this year.
Reappointment to Board of Taxation
The Albanese Government has reappointed Ms Andrea Laing as a part‑time member to the Board of Taxation (BoT) for a three‑year term until 20 October 2027.
Ms Laing has many years of experience in taxation, working in the ATO and private sector.

Treasurer, good morning to you. So this deal already looks to be under threat and it doesn’t seem to have stamped the anti‑Semitism we’re seeing here. There was another attack in Sydney overnight.
Jim Chalmers:
