Jim Chalmers 2022
The Hon Dr Jim Chalmers MP
Treasurer
Interview with David Speers, Insiders, ABC
DAVID SPEERS:
Jim Chalmers, welcome to the program.
JIM CHALMERS:
David, we’re very honoured that you’re spending the last day of your 40s with us. Happy birthday for tomorrow, the big 5‑oh. Thanks for having me back on the show.
SPEERS:
Interview with Laura Tingle, 7:30, ABC
JIM CHALMERS:
The main story in these figures is consumption. Consumption went backwards and discretionary spending fell substantially. And to get your head around that, in through the year terms, we saw around the same growth in the year as we usually see in a single quarter when it comes to consumption.
LAURA TINGLE:
June quarter National Accounts
Today’s National Accounts confirm the Australian economy barely grew in the June quarter.
Really soft growth reflects the impacts of global economic uncertainty, higher interest rates and persistent but moderating inflation.
Interview with Sarah Abo and Karl Stefanovic, Today Show, Channel 9
SARAH ABO:
For more, we are joined now by the Treasurer, Jim Chalmers in Perth this morning. Good morning to you, Treasurer. Forecasts are expecting the GDP to slump yet again. Are you trying to deflect the blame here?
JIM CHALMERS:
Interview with Bridget Brennan, News Breakfast, ABC
BRIDGET BRENNAN:
Well, many economists expect the latest GDP figures due out tomorrow will show the economy is slowing. Let’s bring in the Federal Treasurer, Jim Chalmers, who joins us now from Perth. Good morning to you, Treasurer. It’s early there. Thanks for joining us on News Breakfast.
JIM CHALMERS:
More help on the way from this month
More cost‑of‑living relief will roll out to more Australians from September.
We recognise that people are under the pump and we’re doing something about it.
We’re already rolling out tax cuts for every taxpayer, energy rebates for every household and a million small businesses, and a wage rise for minimum wage earners and more help is on the way from this month.
Consultation begins on new merger notification thresholds
The Albanese Government is consulting on notification thresholds as part of reforms to Australia’s merger rules to boost competition and productivity in our economy.
Our reforms will make Australia’s merger approval system faster, stronger, simpler, more targeted and more transparent.
