Joining us live is the federal Treasurer Jim Chalmers. Treasurer, good to see you. Happy new financial year to you. Lots of extra cash starts to wash through the economy from today. Will folks even notice it though as they battle bigger bills and higher mortgage repayments?

Tomorrow’s a really important day because it’s the 1st of July. From tomorrow, every taxpayer will get a tax cut, every household will get energy bill relief, millions of Australians on awards will get a pay rise, there will be cheaper medicines and an extra 2 weeks of paid parental leave.

ANZ proposal to acquire Suncorp Bank
Today I’m announcing that ANZ Group Holdings Ltd’s (ANZ) proposal to acquire full ownership of Suncorp Bank (Suncorp) from Suncorp Group can proceed subject to enforceable conditions.
This decision comes after careful consideration, much deliberation and consultation, and a long and thorough process.
